Joel Plaskett, “Make a Little Noise”
I’m going out tonight/ To make some enemies.
(OK, not really. I wish. “I’m going home tonight/ To put my laundry together,” more likely)

Joel Plaskett, “Soundtrack of the Night,” Ashtray Rock
I laid some Plaskett on a dude at work this week. He was asking for it. When I was showing off my credit in the Thrush Hermit box set (yeah, I’m like that), we ended up looking up ThrushHermit.com, which redirects to Wikipedia, which specifies the band members. “Joel Plaskett?” he asked. “Like ‘Television Set’ Joel Plaskett?” I called his bluff, he pulled out his iPod, and there it was. Guy’s a big Duchovny fan (almost creepily so) so I should have guessed he’d seen his share of “TV Set,” which features the song. Still, an unexpected delight. And my opportunity to force him to listen to way more Joel.
Anyway, because I pulled some songs for him to sample, I’ve been Joel-ing it up at work. I keep coming back to this song, and in particular, the line: “Don’t resist it, you said, we’re getting older.” No kidding. I mean, it’s the spectacular delivery as much as the sentiment, but true true true.
Still getting that tattoo, though. To mark 34.5. Call it a midlife crisis – though it would suck to not make it to 70.
Joel Plaskett, “All the Way Down the Line,” Three
Man, I already miss Thrush Hermit. Too much. So I’m taking a break, though the break does include Joel Plaskett – Emergency and solo - Camouflage Nights, Drug Dog, etc. (I can’t go cold turkey!)
Which brings us to Joel’s “All the Way Down the Line,” my new wedding song. Sigh.
Guess what? I primarily think about Joel Plaskett songs! (When I’m not thinking about work and moving and doing my laundry, that is.)
Anyway, one Joel Plaskett song, called “On & On & On,” has a bit about a cat. I have a cat, so this is particularly interesting to me. Joel’s cat, White Fang, is [...]

Joel Plaskett Emergency / “Face of the Earth”
I missed the Joel Plaskett Emergency’s Ashtray Rock when it was out – something about “Fashionable People” just terrified me – but after hearing him perform this in Brooklyn these last couple of times, “Face of the Earth” is now one of my all-time favorites by anyone.
“I [...]
I am pleased to report that last night’s Joel Plaskett show was gorgeous, revelatory and wasn’t packed full of rude, drunk Canadians.
More later.
To commemorate the fall of the Berlin Wall, I present one of Joel Plaskett’s songs that reference the Berlin Wall (yes, there’s more than one.)
This here is called “Through & Through & Through.” It’s on his triple-album Three (get it? get it!) and it’s terrific.
If you come to Union Hall in Brooklyn on Friday, you’ll [...]
Joel Plaskett is playing next Friday, November 13, at Union Hall in Brooklyn. You should go. I will. I’m even skipping a sweet VIP theater event with free booze, THAT’s how important it is.
Good things come if you take the bait!
Tonight, Dollie is at “Equus” and I am home sick, so I am spending some quality time with my TV. The DVR, which has been more than 90 percent full for weeks now, has been feeling neglected. What I am doing right now is attending to “Life.” I love it. It’s my favorite. And I [...]
