A light load, this is. Many were good, a
few were great. The best thing I saw screened all year was a Jim Henson
commercials and experimental films retrospective at BAM. That didn't
count. I'm not sure what lands at #1, but, sadly, Wes Anderson easily
crashed in the bottom half.
So tell me, what
did I miss out on this year?
GREATEST DISCOVERIES
(In most cases, things that were there all along. Isn't that always the
way?)
James St. James
Sir, where have you been all my
life? Oh, in NYC and then L.A.? Sorry, I wasn't paying attention. I am now
"Rescue Me"
I DVR'ed the first
six or seven episodes of this, fully expecting to play one, hate it and
erase them all. Wrong again. While I'll die happy if I never see Denis
Leary fake doing it ever again (Alright, we get it!), this show was
wildly entertaining, and wasn't at all the love letter to oh-so-perfect
firemen that I'd feared. Compelling stuff.
DVR
I'd die
without you.
"Life As We Know It"
OK, so I read the book
it's based on, Doing It and it
just confirmed for me that this show is something from another world.
All of the things I hate about plot, this show hops right over. People
have a misunderstanding? It's settled in minutes. Someone has a secret?
Not anymore. The book doesn't follow this path of genius, so I have to
give credit to the series. I think it was sent just for me, but feel
free to enjoy it yourselves.
R Bar
Free comedy, cheap
drinks and a man who appears to be Joel Plaskett's pretty-gay-comedian
younger brother behind the bar with his equally delightful boyfriend,
right under the BQE. Think of all the time we've wasted!
Seth
Meyers
You were in front of me the whole time. How much love did
I secretly give DJ Jonathan Feinstein? Why did it take another bad
episode of Pranksters to make me finally admit it? I'll never
know.
